Eugenio Recuenco

Here are a few images from an amazing photographer, Eugenio Recuenco. My friend and I were looking through these a few days ago and talking about how the light and texture make the almost bleak photographs extremely expressive. The above is a great example of this.

In Spain, Recuenco shoots exclusively for Vogue. Other names I saw on his site include Lodi, Madame Figaro, Nox, Vanity Fair, View, Wad, and Stern. Many others as well.

Every series is completely different: locations, cultures, times, stories. I particularly like the fairy tale photographs...couture is a fantasy all on its own. Other themes/stories include: fairs, film noir, sci fi, victorian, cirque de soleil, ancient things, graphic novels, exploration, suburbia, travel, the list goes on.

I think I orginally saw this on NOTCOT.

There are really only three colors in this one. It's very still on the ground, but the sky contains so much motion. The balance across the photograph is perfect. Love it!

On my mind

Quick sketch from a dream I had last night. I've only got a cheap webcam for taking pictures, so it's a little fuzzy. The words read:

For the ones you love
How far would you go
How sorry would you be
Would you feel a thing

Oscars!

Like every other female on the planet, I watch for the dresses. My top three:

Publish
#3: J-Lo: Bohemian Marc Jacobs with strands of sparkles across the top and back. Beautiful with her skin tone. Love the short curly hair. This is definitely my favorite J-Lo look of all time.

#2: Dame Helen Mirren: With a well-deserved Oscar. Her dress was perfect: age-appropriate, with some sparkle. You can't see it in this picture, but the skirt was a beautiful flowy material. She was gliding all night. My mom wants to wear this dress at my wedding. I have no idea who the designer is.

#1: Gweneth Paltrow: Gets it completely right. Love love love the unique rust color, the intricate bodice, the capped sleeves, the mermaid (or trumpet? Is there a difference?) skirt and train because it balances the top perfectly. Love the bracelets and the long straight hair. So deco. Only Gweneth could pull this off so well (although I wouldn't mind trying it on). Thank you Zac Posen.

I haven't seen many of the nominated films this year (that will change soon), but I watched anyway. My thoughts:
-Ellen Degeneres was a very funny host. I loved the little oscar pouch thing.
-Al Gore looked very bloated and was wearing makeup. But that bit where he was announcing his candidacy and the pit orchestra interrupted him was halarious.
-Ari Sandel, winner of the Oscar for Best Short Film, Live Action for West Bank Story (which I really want to see now) gave the best acceptance speech.
-Martin won!! It was so awesome to see him on stage with all the great directors (minus Clint. Who lost.)
-All the links above are to the person's imdb site, except for Al Gore's, which is to his environmental "get involved" website. Am I an Al Gore fan? Not really. But I am a fan of the environment. So good for him.

Someday everything is gonna sound like a rhapsody

Driving home from grocery shopping today, The Band was on the radio, and I was pleased. A great song called When I Play My Masterpiece, from the album Cahoots. I spent some time on the website linked above reading, and there's some cool stories and history about the group that isn't the Beatles. Check it out.

I guess a shoutout to Bob Dylan is in order.
